Welcome!

This site is intended to be a quick snapshot of my professional life - for my students, my colleagues, and the many families and educators who make my teaching and research possible. Here you can find my current C.V. as well as information about my teaching, and formal and informal research.

Interested in doing a research internship in my lab? Head to the SEAL Lab webpage!

Students interested in requesting a letter of recommendation should complete this form and email me with plenty of notice (min. 4 weeks).

Who am I?

I am a born-and-raised Pacific Northwesterner. I have also lived in Virginia (for college), Pennsylvania (for grad school), and Wisconsin (for work). I am thrilled to be back in the Pacific Northwest and working at Saint Martin’s.

Some of my recent research looks at how families (especially women and girls) adapted to life in COVID-19 quarantine. Another recent project uses Foldscope paper microscopes to understand how early play experiences shape interest in STEM. I'm broadly interested in how social group membership shapes personal cognition, intergroup cognition, and ultimately outcomes like achievement, aspiration, and interest. Students are an integral part of my research team. If you are a student interested in assisting with research in my lab, send me an email!

Outside of work, I am an avid equestrian. I compete in show jumping all over the West Coast. My family and I live in Olympia, not far from SMU. I love the outdoors (hiking and gardening), experimenting in the kitchen, and cheering on the Kraken.
